Diabetes and me
Brisbane: Diabetes Queensland

This resource aims to raise awareness of diabetes among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In this video Jeanie and Tom who both have diabetes discuss how they feel about having diabetes and how they manage it day to day. They talk about support needed and how they understand what they need to do to stay healthy, including participating in physical activity and eating healthy food.

The video runs for 2 minutes 30 seconds and is just one story about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people whose lives have all been touched in some way by diabetes.

Other stories in the Living well with diabetes series include:

  • Karen’s journey to health and fitness
  • Aunty Dell’s family history of diabetes and how it’s helped her stay on top of her own health
  • Uncle Charlie’s wake-up call and his quest for perfect baked beans
  • Young Mcgregors take on type 1 and how his family has adapted
  • Janelle’s happy news after gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

The video was developed by Diabetes Queensland.
