Don’t make smokes your story is a video campaign on Youtube and free-to-air television that tells the real, difficult stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have smoked tobacco.

A major ambassador of the campaign is Professor Tom Calma. The campaign is a comprehensive list of warnings about the dangers that face smokers, from an Indigenous perspecitve. Key warnings include:

  • the link between tobacco use and diabetes
  • smoking and pregnancy
  • the long term benefits of quitting
  • recent positive changes in smoking rates
  • key data on quitting and the costs of tobacco.

The resources linked to the campaign were created for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and celebrate cultural family values.
