This report reviews past and current programs, research and strategies for the prevention and treatment of ear disease in Indigenous children. While the focus of the document is on the prevention of ear disease, programs aimed at treating ear infections and minimising hearing loss, are also reviewed.

The report examines the following factors related to the review of ear disease in Indigenous children:

  • ear disease in Indigenous children
  • risk factors for ear disease
  • pathology and types of hearing loss
  • epidemiology
  • programs for the prevention of ear disease
  • programs for the treatment of ear disease
  • programs to minimise the impacts of hearing loss
  • gaps in evidence.
