The role of spirituality in social and emotional wellbeing initiatives: the family wellbeing program at Yarrabah
Darwin: Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health

This paper reports on an evaluation of the Family Wellbeing (FWB) program implemented in the Indigenous community of Yarrabah in response to a community suicide crisis. The FWB program was developed by Indigenous Australians and seeks to enhance social and emotional wellbeing, and foster the development of life skills in Indigenous peoples. The evaluation used an action research framework. Interviews with program participants revealed several important themes, many of which relate to the protective factors for suicide which suggests social and emotional wellbeing intervention programs can be an effective suicide prevention tool.
