Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin announced the establishment of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Alliance during her opening address at Straight Talk 2010, which is a gathering of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The alliance will work closely with the national representative body for Indigenous people which will be formed early next year.
The aim of the alliance is to allow Indigenous women from different parts of Australia to come together to discuss and influence change on major issues of importance to them and their communities.
