Interpretative guide for the RACGP standards for general practices (3rd edition) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services.
Melbourne: Royal Australian College of General Practitioners

This companion guide has been written for services operating in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health area. The aim is to guide people who are unfamiliar with The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners publication, Standards for general practices, through the standards.

It aims to help people understand:

  • the point of each criterion
  • the types of things that someone interested in quality would look for
    and
  • the types of documents that are important in maintaining quality in each area of the Standards for general practices.

In particular the guide is aimed:

  • to assist in maintaining the quality of health services to help inform and educate the people who work in health services
  • to help inform and educate the people who work in health services, and the people who come to health services for their care, particularly new staff and people who are new to health services
  • to help explain which people are responsible/accountable for providing high quality care in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services.

Although this guide can be read separately, it is designed to be read in conjunction with the Standards for general practices.
