Managing crusted scabies in remote Aboriginal communities: 2014 edition
Sydney: One Disease

This guideline, produced by One Disease, is a guide for the chronic disease case management of crusted scabies to break the cycle of recurrences and transmission.

Managing crusted scabies in remote Aboriginal communities is based on the CARPA Standard Treatment Manual 6th ed., and aims to build patients capacity for self-management whilst providing therapeutic rapport.

The resource is split into four sections:

  • diagnosis
    • clinical appearance: common errors
    • skin scrapings
    • audit patient clinical files
    • contact tracing
  • patient treatment
    • grade disease
    • working together
  • household treatment
    • medication to use
    • making sure everyone joins in
  • chronic care plan
    • essentials
    • ongoing management
    • recurrences.

The resource was produced as part of One Disease at a Time’s scabies elimination program, the East Arnhem scabies control program.
