Monitoring the health impacts of mandatory folic acid and iodine fortification
Canberra: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

This publication assesses the health effects of mandatory folic acid and iodine fortification, introduced to help reduce the prevalence of neural tube defects and address the re-emergence of iodine deficiency in the Australian population. Based on five key monitoring questions, pre and post-mandatory fortification data were analysed to assess the impact of the policy change, which also considered the expected outcome.
