Rheumatic Heart Disease: recognition, prevention and treatment
Adelaide, SA: SA Health

This five-minute video, produced by SA Health, aims to familiarise health professionals with Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).

It features a touching interview with the mother of a young Aboriginal woman whose ARF infection was not detected when she first presented to hospital, and who subsequently developed RHD. It also features an interview with Dr Alex Brown of the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute. The video urges clinicians in both urban and remote SA to familiarise themselves with the The Australian guideline for prevention, diagnosis and management of ARF and RHD, and to make use of the resources for professionals and families on the SA Health website.
