The Diabetes Story
Brisbane, Qld: Diabetes Queensland

The Diabetes story app uses audio-visual aids such as Feltman and Feltmum animations to show what happens inside the body if a person has type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes.

It features young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people demonstrating:

  • what diabetes is
  • diabetes in pregnancy
  • managing diabetes
  • checking blood glucose levels
  • living and coping well with diabetes
  • where to get help if you have diabetes.

The presenters encourage people who have diabetes to work with their doctor and health team to take charge of their diabetes.

The resource is the result of a collaborative project between Diabetes Queensland, Diabetes Australia, Diabetes Victoria, the National Diabetes Services Scheme, the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service and the Cairns based Wuchopperen Health Service and Apunipima Cape York Health Council.
