The formation of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers Association has been formally acknowledged by the Minister for Indigenous Health, Warren Snowden, in Ceduna, South Australia. Mr Snowden said he hoped the organisation would provide a mentoring and advocacy role representing Health Worker interests at a national level and engagment with forums on issues related to Indigenous health.

Justin Mohamed, Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, said Health Workers are essential to the delivery of clinical services within Aboriginal health services and are one of the critical professions to advancing Aboriginal health. Mr Mohamed indicated that the Association will work for Health workers by supporting their careers, professional development, networking and accreditation of the profession. All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers are encouraged to become members of the association.
