A new agreement between the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE) and Charles Darwin University (CDU) has been signed to establish the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Education (ACIKE).

The partnership aims to help close the gap and provide better education opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The Australian Government has provided funding for the centre which is being built on the CDU campus.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda said the centre has the potential to change lives and feels that the centre’s focus on Indigenous knowledge is extremely important.

The ACIKE will deliver qualifications in areas including health, education and Indigenous knowledge.
