The Healing Foundation Development Team has released the report Voices from the campfires: Establishing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation. The report is the result of four months of national consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing and the establishment of the Healing Foundation. The report contains a set of ten recommendations, relating to the establishment, scope, independence and implementation of the Healing Foundation. The aim of the proposed Healing Foundation is to address the cycle of trauma and grief in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly affecting the Stolen Generations and their families. The Foundation will support holistic and innovative healing through funding support, community education and documenting what practices work. The Healing Foundation Development Team has been established to work with Indigenous Australians to ensure broad ownership and support for the Foundation.
