Knowledge of the legal system is important for the health and well-being of Aboriginal people. This report, prepared with the Yolnu people in the Northern Territory, highlights common misunderstandings in relation to the Balanda legal system. The report suggests that key issues in the legal system lie in the lack of communication, understanding and mutual respect between Yolnu people and legal workers.

The report provides an extensive conceptual background of the justice framework and provides recommendations to overcome the issues highlighted, such as: language centres, interpretation units, Aboriginal community awareness and education services.
