Baby baby
Adelaide: Inception Strategies

The Baby baby comic book is aimed at encouraging Aboriginal women to attend regular check-ups during their pregnancies. It stresses the importance of these regular check-ups to monitor the pregnancy and the baby’s growth.

The comic book deliveries this message through the story of an Aboriginal family who have a number of women at different stages of pregnancy who face many different health issues including:

  • young pregnancy with a family history of complications during childbirth
  • older pregnancy
  • gestational diabetes
  • loss of a baby

The comic book also highlights the damaging effects of smoking and alcohol on an unborn baby, the importance of a well-balanced diet and the need to often have blood tests at the beginning of a pregnancy.

Workshops were held with Aboriginal women in Perth, WA who contributed to the script for the comic book.
