The 2017 Close the Gap campaign progress and priorities report focuses on the key mechanisms for directing and servicing the health priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The report emphasises dual priorities of firstly a renewed and meaningful engagement between Government and Australia’s First Peoples, as represented through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak organisations, and secondly the essential need for health to be considered in the context of the wider social and cultural determinants that significantly impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This report is made up of three parts:

  • part one: progress in closing the gap
  • part two: a new relationship
  • part three: priorities for action:
    • reinvigorating the national approach to health inequality
    • social and cultural determinants of health
    • the progress of the Implementation plan for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health plan 2013-2023
    • Primary Health Networks.
