The Australian Community Centre for Diabetes (ACCD) at Victoria University (VU) has developed a website for people with diabetes called ‘How’s your sugar?’. This website was developed for Indigenous people by Indigenous people. The aim was to provide information on living well for people with type 2 diabetes, incorporating information for Indigenous people about the practicalities of living well with diabetes. The narrative based web site uses ‘ordinary’ people who discuss their challenges and successes, describing the practical realities they face, rather than just providing diabetes management information.

Based on the premise that diabetes, although a medical condition, is also a social and cultural experience, the use of narrative is central in the same way that narrative is central as a cultural method of knowledge sharing in communities to share skills, history and stories.
