The Living longer stronger conference focused on enhancing the skills and knowledge of Aboriginal communities for the purpose of addressing chronic disease, with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) a particular focal point. It was held 19-20 June, 2012 in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) and hosted by the AH&MRC of NSW.  The objectives of the conference were to establish or strengthen relationships between ACCHSs and their stakeholders, raise awareness of the good practice models for the prevention and management of chronic disease, and showcase programs being implemented by ACCHSs.

The conference captured and reflected the following themes:

  • success stories of ACCHSs
  • the influence of what works at ground level for policy decisions
  • connecting with community
  • the strength of the workforce.
