National rural and remote workforce innovation and reform strategy
Adelaide: Health Workforce Australia

This national strategy offers a course of action aimed at addressing workforce issues for rural and remote areas where there is a reported shortage of skilled health workers. The strategy provides strategic actions for adoption at a national, local and agency level.

The strategy has been developed with regard to the health reforms currently underway in Australia and in particular the establishment of Medicare Locals and Local Health Networks. Health Workforce Australia (HWA) will work with key stakeholders on the implementation of the strategy.

If implemented, the strategy will support the development of a larger, flexible, skilled workforce which will providing safe and effective health care, in rural and remote Australia. This will contribute to ‘close the gap’ initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and will also improve the health and well being of all Australians.
