The Australian Government released a discussion paper on 13 August 2009 about possible amendments to the Native Title Act 1993 to accelerate the process for the construction of public housing and infrastructure in remote Indigenous communities. This will allow for the Council of Australian Governments $5.5 billion investment in Indigenous housing to commence. The proposed amendments will consider the native title process and how the housing project can be implemented without adversely affecting any native title rights over locations chosen.
