Melbourne: Cancer Council Victoria

The Rethink Sugary Drinks, the Sports Drinks are Gammin! campaign draws on the experiences of five Aboriginal athletes to encourage Aboriginal community members in Victoria (Vic) to drink water instead of sugary drinks.

The campaign was launched because the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages (e.g soft drink, sports drinks) is associated with increased energy intake and in turn, weight gain and obesity. Also because obesity is a leading risk factor for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

In this video the five athletes talk about their experience using sports drinks and why they now choose water to hydrate their bodies.

The video was produced by the Cancer Council Victoria
