State of Australia’s mothers
Melbourne: Save the Children Australia

This report compares the situation for mothers and their children at both the state and local level to understand the varied experience of mothers across Australia.
The indicators examined include:

  • health – maternal mortality, child mortality and antenatal care
  • education – child development and women’s education
  • income – average household income
  • relative socio-economic disadvantage.

The report lists key findings and recommendations and aims to ensure policies and programs are better targeted so that all Australian mothers and children experience high levels of well being regardless of socioeconomic status, cultural background or location.
