The University of Queensland together with the Goondir Indigenous Health Service will create new dental training clinics in Dalby and St George in south Queensland next year. Nine final year students will be based at the facilities which will be built using federal funding. The new facilities are designed to provide services to local Indigenous people and the wider community, and as well as increasing dentistry services in the region, it will also allow for students to experience working in a rural practice. The new facilities mean that dentists and students will have a presence in the area for approximately 46 to 48 weeks per year, up to five days a week.
